Every piece of gear you carry should serve a purpose, including your everyday carry flashlight. While the Wuben X5 isn’t marketed as a tactical flashlight, I firmly believe that reliable EDC tools are an important part of any tactical loadout.
A compact flashlight is one of those items you’ll likely use far more often than any piece of mission-specific gear, making durability, functionality, and ease of carry just as important as raw output.
In this review, I’ll break down the Wuben X5’s build quality, features, beam performance, runtime, and overall practicality to see whether it deserves a spot in your pocket.
By the end, you’ll clearly understand where the X5 excels, where it falls short, and whether it’s the right EDC flashlight for your needs.

VERDICT SNAPSHOT
The Wuben X5 is an all-around excellent EDC flashlight that checks all the right boxes.
Its slim, rectangular body feels ergonomic and fits well in the hand. It’s also long enough that it doesn’t feel too small and force you to hold it in a weird grip.
The slim profile and tight pocket clip make it great for everyday carry: it goes unnoticed in your pocket, takes up almost no space, and stays firmly in place.
The mechanical select switch is highly functional and makes it extremely easy to switch between lights. The three light sources greatly increase its versatility for different users and professions.
The dual tactical tail switches are also highly functional and make the dual light and laser so easy to access and use.
Lastly, the Wuben X5’s dual battery capability makes it highly usable no matter where you are; whether you have charging ability or not, you have a way to power the X5.
Overall, the Wuben X5 is an extremely versatile, highly functional, and excellent EDC flashlight.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
A couple of X5 features stood out to me right away when I pulled it out of the box.
First, its general shape and design. I have had other rectangular flashlights and haven’t been overly impressed with them. But because the X5 is so narrow, the shape is ergonomic and works well.
The second was the mechanical selection switch, and the third was the dual tactical tail switches. Both are highly functional features I love for their ease of use in high-stress situations.
Out of the box, I liked the X5 and could add it to my EDC right away.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX
In the box, along with the X5 flashlight, Wuben sends you a lanyard which doubles as its charging cable and an instruction manual.

IN THE TRENCHES
I have carried the X5 around for a while now, and I can’t praise it enough for how well it fits in a pocket thanks to its slim design and how well it stays there thanks to its extremely robust pocket clip.
It stays hidden and out of the way, but when I need it, it’s nothing but a quick pull, and I am able to light up any situation I happen to be in, which is usually working in a dark, cramped area.
The laser is great too, but for it to be truly useful, I would say you need the more powerful 3R laser version. Either way though, having a separate switch for the laser is fantastic and highly functional.
The X5 will be part of my EDC for years to come, I’m sure.

BUILD BREAKDOWN
BODY
The Wuben X5 features a slim, rectangular body made from CNC-machined 6061 aerospace aluminum with a Type III anodized finish.
It incorporates built-in cooling slots and an anti-roll design, measures 137.05 × 35.05 × 21.2 mm, and weighs approximately 127.2 g with the rechargeable battery installed.
The X5 is also rated IP65 for dust and water resistance and has a 1-meter impact-resistance rating.

POCKET CLIP
The X5 features a strong stainless-steel pocket clip that attaches to the side of the light, allowing it to be carried securely in a pocket or clipped to gear.
The clip is removable and can be repositioned to the other side of the X5 for different carry preferences.

LANYARD LOOP
The X5 has a lanyard loop built into the rear of the pocket clip, providing an additional option for securing or carrying the flashlight. The loop can be used with the included lanyard or other compatible lanyards.

MODE SELECTOR
The X5 uses a mechanical rotary mode selector on the side of the body with three positions: white light, UV light, and locked.
The selector controls which primary light function the mechanical switch activates, while the laser has its own dedicated button. This switch is one of the X5’s best features.

TACTICAL TAIL SWITCHES
The X5 has dual tactical tail switches: the primary switch controls the selected white or UV light mode, and a separate dedicated switch controls the laser.
The tail switches give the X5 a tactile feel. Both switches have a solid detent with a good audible click at the bottom end.
The primary switch has a solid half-press, allowing a quick on, with a strong wall preventing a full press when you don’t want the light permanently on.

BATTERY
The X5 comes standard with a 1200mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery; however, it can also operate on four AAA batteries, providing an alternative power source when recharging isn’t available.
A charging indicator on the front of the light shows blue when the battery is charged and red when it needs recharging.

LIGHT
Wubens X5 uses a Luminus SST36F 5000K neutral-white LED, producing up to 1,300 lumens with a peak beam intensity of 3,481 candela and a measured beam distance of 118 metres.
It offers five brightness levels from 1 to 1,300 lumens, along with a 1,000-lumen strobe mode.

UV LIGHT
The X5 features a 365nm UV LED with 2W of optical power and a 2-hour run time.
This longwave UV wavelength is commonly used for fluorescence inspection, including checking currency and security markings, identifying fluorescent minerals and gemstones, and detecting certain stains, residues, and fluorescent dyes.

LASER
The X5 is available with a green laser in either Class 1 or Class 3R, depending on the market. The Class 1 version produces up to 0.39 mW, making it a lower-power laser suitable for general pointing applications.
The Class 3R version produces up to 5 mW and provides a significantly brighter and more visible beam, particularly over longer distances.

MY TAKE
SIZE & SHAPE
I’ve been saying from the beginning that I am a huge fan of the X5’s shape and size. It’s long enough to fit comfortably in a larger hand and narrow enough not to be bulky, so you can get a solid grip.
On the side meant to fit into the crease of your fingers, Wuben also added bevelled edges, which let it sit even more comfortably and naturally in your hand.
All around, it’s a great design.

DUAL TACTICAL TAIL SWITCHES
The dual tactical tail switches are perfect for EDC, letting you operate the light sources and the laser simultaneously.
Wuben as well did a great job with the construction of the switches. The primary switch has a solid half-press for a quick on that has a very firm wall, ensuring you don’t permanently switch the light on unless you intend to.
They feel good to use and are constructed exceptionally well.

NO INSTANT STROBE
The one real issue I have with the X5, though, is that there is no instant strobe. I’m glad it has a strobe function; that’s better than no strobe, but a strobe isn’t very useful unless you can access it while the light is off.
Now, an instant strobe is more of a tactical flashlight feature, but even in an EDC flashlight, it’s more useful than a standard access strobe.

HEAD-TO-HEAD COMPARISON
The Wuben X5 and the Acebeam K1 are two solid competing flashlights in the near-tactical, more EDC community, offering nearly the same features but approaching the EDC flashlight idea from slightly different angles.
The X5 is just over five inches long and weighs 128 grams, whereas the K1 is a little over four inches long and weighs only 77 grams.
The K1’s smaller, lighter profile lets it sit easily in your pocket without getting in your way, which is ideal for an EDC flashlight.
The X5, although slightly larger and nearly twice as heavy, also fits easily in your pocket thanks to its thin, streamlined rectangular design.
This thin, streamlined design ensures your hand still has plenty of room in your pocket when you carry the X5.
Both the K1 and X5 are rechargeable; however, you must remove the battery from the K1 to recharge it, whereas the X5 can be charged through its protected external charging port, as seen in the photo below.
In my opinion, the X5 has that one up on the K1, since an EDC flashlight can end up in dirty areas and workplaces, and if I need to recharge it, I don’t want to take it apart.

The X5 and the K1 both have solid tail switches. However, the K1 only has one, while the X5 has dual switches. So if you want to use the main light and the laser on the K1, you have to switch between them, as you can only use one at a time.
The X5, however, has a dedicated laser switch, and you choose between the main or UV light for the primary switch. This allows you to use the main light and the laser at the same time.
I love this aspect of the X5, as I have used it many times while teaching to both light up a hard-to-see area and point out exactly what I am talking about to my candidates.
Tail switches are highly functional, and I want any flashlight I use to have a tail switch, but dual tail switches are far superior.

The K1 and the X5 both have mechanical select function switches, which is awesome.
I am a huge fan of mechanical switches as they are easier to use than electronic; there’s no button sequence you need to remember to switch between features.
The X5, though, has a lock position that prevents the light from accidentally turning on in your pocket and wasting the battery, whereas the K1 doesn’t have a lock feature.
In the end, both have solid mechanical switches, with the X5 having, I think, slightly better options on its switch due to the X5 not needing to include the laser on its switch.

Both the K1 and X5 offer the same multi-light capability of a primary white light, a UV light, and a green laser.
The X5 has a max output of 1300lm, a max candela of 3481 cd, and a max throw of 118m, while the K1 has a max output of 1000lm, a max candela of 12342 cd, and a max throw of 223m.
So both lights put out a decent amount of light, but the K1’s is a little more focused than the X5’s, so it can go a bit farther. That said, if you plan to use either light in confined spaces, how far the light can go doesn’t matter much.
However, even in confined spaces, I have found the K1’s light a bit better for lighting up a specific, hard-to-see area.

So, in the end, both stand out as solid EDC flashlights; both have aspects I like and, at the same time, aspects I think could be improved. It really comes down to which features matter most to you.
FAQ’S
IS THE WUBEN X5 GOOD AS AN EDC FLASHLIGHT?
The Wuben X5 was designed with everyday carry in mind. Its compact size, lightweight aluminum construction, USB-C rechargeable battery or AAA compatibility, and versatile brightness levels make it an excellent companion for daily tasks.
Whether you’re looking for a flashlight to keep in your pocket, vehicle, toolbox, or backpack, the X5 offers a great balance of portability and performance.
DOES THE WUBEN X5 HAVE MEMORY MODE?
Yes. The Wuben X5 remembers the last brightness level used in its regular lighting modes, allowing you to quickly return to your preferred output without cycling through every setting each time you turn it on.
Special modes such as Strobe are typically excluded from memory mode.
DOES THE WUBEN X5 GET HOT DURING EXTENDED USE?
Like most high-output flashlights, the Wuben X5 will generate heat when operated at its highest brightness levels.
However, an intelligent temperature-regulation system automatically reduces output when needed to protect both the flashlight and its internal components while maintaining safe operating temperatures.
IS THE X5 TSA FRIENDLY
The Wuben X5 is generally TSA-friendly and can be packed in your carry-on or checked luggage, as long as you follow current airline regulations for lithium-ion batteries.
If the flashlight contains a removable lithium-ion battery, it’s typically recommended to carry the battery in your carry-on rather than checked baggage.
Since airline and international regulations can change, it’s always a good idea to verify the latest requirements before travelling.
FINAL CALL
Overall, the Wuben X5 is a well-designed EDC flashlight that packs impressive versatility into a slim, compact body.
The combination of a bright white light, UV light, and either a Class 1 or Class 3R laser gives it functionality that goes well beyond what you typically get from a standard EDC light.
The dual AAA and rechargeable battery compatibility also makes it practical for nearly every everyday carry situation.
I particularly like the rectangular body, fixed mechanical selector, and overall ergonomics, which make the X5 easy to carry and straightforward to operate.
It is not a dedicated tactical flashlight, but for everyday tasks, work, inspection, and general utility, the X5 offers a very useful combination of features in a package that is easy to keep with you.
If you are looking for an EDC light that gives you more functionality than simply turning on a bright white beam, the Wuben X5 is definitely worth considering.
