Tactical flashlights are a needed component of everyone’s EDC. Wuben’s newest tactical flashlight, the T4, makes meeting this need easy. Wuben has been making flashlights since 1981, and using the combined knowledge from their extensive history in the industry, they have put together this new little powerhouse.
It’s compact and slick, and it hits the old peepers hard when you catch it right in the face.

IS THE T4 WORTH BUYING
The T4 is a solid purchase and worth buying based on a few main characteristics: its compact size, decently high candela, high level of functionality in tactical situations, and, most of all, the price point.
Although the T4 isn’t the brightest or most focused flashlight, it is a good combination of size, weight, function, and price.
It’s small enough to fit in any pouch and hits hard enough to disorientate an assailant, and it does it for $60 USD or $80 CAD.
OVERALL
The Wuben T4 is a solid little tactical flashlight. Wuben’s T1 tactical flashlight was slightly too large, but with the T4, they completely solved that problem by going micro.
It has a slick aluminum body, Wuben’s unique embedded USB-C charging port covered by an external ring, a tactical tail switch, and my favourite new aspect, the mechanical mode selector on the tail.
Its 850 lumens are on the low end for tactical flashlights, but it is focused enough that the T4 can push those 850 lumens out to a solid 401 meters.
For $60 the T4 gives you a lot of functionality.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
When I opened the box, the first three things that stood out to me about the T4 were how good the flashlight looked aesthetically, that Wuben decided to use a bright blue coating on the pocket clip, and that Wuben had gone really small in the design.
The body’s typical mat black anti-abrasion finish looks great, but I was shocked to see that the Wuben had chosen a shiny metallic blue for the pocket clip.
It’s a cool look, but it is definitely not tactically orientated.
Wuben’s original tactical flashlight, the T1, is just over six inches, which I’d argue is too big for a tactical flashlight. Apparently, Wuben thought the same thing, so they took more than two inches off of the T4.
The final aspect I thought was awesome and stood out was the new mechanical mode selector on the tail end. It makes choosing modes extremely easy to choose on the fly.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
Along with the T4, the box contains a couple of spare O-rings, a wrist lanyard, a charging cable, and the user instructions—pretty standard for Wuben flashlights.
FIELD FIRSTS
I was quite happy with how the T4 handled when I got it out for the first time. I want to say it’s almost to small, but at the same time its not quite there.
You can still hold it comfortably in your hands and use it without any problems.
You can see the difference in the beam between the T1 and the T4. The T1 with 2000 lumens is noticeably brighter, but its beam also has more beam spill and appears slightly less focused.
The biggest takeaway from my first field experience with the T4 was its functionality. It’s small, with a bright and decently high-focused beam. The T4 is a very functional flashlight.
QUALITY AND DESIGN
BODY
The T4 was originally created using 7075 aluminum alloy and given a gold mat finish. I tested the more tactical black version created out of 6061 aluminum alloy.
It has a solid build, is strong and firm, and, even with its small stature, has some decent weight to it. There is no real knurling on the T4 other than a little on the tail cap right by the mode selector.
With the T4 so small, though, there is no real need for it. Especially when you have the flashlight ring attached to it.
BELT CLIP
The belt clip is a standard steel belt clip. It’s strong and not flimsy, which is the greatest concern with belt clips. Sometimes, the metal isn’t strong enough and won’t hold the flashlight onto your gear.
I was surprised that Wuben chose a shiny metallic blue belt clip. It is definitely not tactical, and the T4 is a tactical flashlight.
It looks cool and adds some style to the T4, for sure, but it is not tactical in the least.
SWITCH
The tactical tail switch is firm, with a solid press and good detent. The firmness makes it easy to do a partial press to access the instant turbo. There is almost a wall at the halfway point.
The detent has a nice audible click, letting you know the switch is fully depressed.
The switch’s forward and reverse circuit system is a unique trait and a smart way to give quick access to both high and strobe while only having a single tail switch.
As nice a press as the switch was, I was not impressed with a couple of aspects.
The actual button inside the outer rubber cover is quite narrow and fills up very little of the rubber. This leaves the edge and sides of the switch feeling squishy and cheap.
Wuben also did not put any knurling on the end of the switch. This little bit of knurling can make the switch easier to find and use in extremely dark environments.
MODE SELECTOR
I am a huge fan of the manual mode selector. Many tactical lights use electronic mode selectors, which require pressing and holding the switch in different combinations.
An electric mode selector means you must memorize the specific order of pressing the switch to change modes, which can take time.
It also means that to switch modes, you must turn the light on and off, which really isn’t tactical and can give away your position if you do this in a dark environment.
A manual selector like this makes mode selection super easy and quick. There’s just no beating it. I was excited to see this on the T4.
CHARGING RING
The T4 uses Wuben’s concealed USB-C charging port, embedded under an external aluminum cover that seals it from dust and water.
With a protected external charging port like this, you never have to open the T4’s tail cap, exposing the battery to potential harm and damage.
STRIKE BEZEL
Like most tactical flashlights, the T4 has a steel strike bezel on the head. However, because the T4 is so small, you would never want to use it as your main glass-breaking tool.
INDICATOR LIGHT
Wuben put a charge indicator light right next to the charging port. It’s a great little addition that lets you know when your battery is fully charged.
BATTERY
The T4 comes with a single 18350 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery and supports CR123 batteries. Its maximum run time is one minute on high and seventy hours on low.
LIGHT
Wuben used an OSRAM KW CSLPM1.TG 6500K or just OSRAM for short LED in the T4. This little powerhouse produces 850 lumens and throws that light up to 401 meters.
The 850 meters is below average for a tactical flashlight, but the focused lens makes up for it with an intensity of 40,200.
My team and I tested the T4’s blinding capability, and although it doesn’t hit as hard as some flashlights on the market when you’re not expecting it, the T4 packs quite a punch.
AP50 TACTICAL FLASHLIGHT RING
The AP50 Tactical Flashlight Ring is a nice little addition to the T4. Because the T4 is so small, there can be concern about dropping it while using it, especially if you have thicker gloves on.
First and foremost, the AP50 ensures you will never drop the T4. Running your middle finger through the ring secures it nicely in the palm of your hand.
The end of the ring does cover up the manual mode selector, though, so if you have the AP50 on, you need to know where each mode is.
The AP50 has a very aggressive and sharp tungsten carbide point on the ring. It’s cool; however, I would be wary of using it against someone as it offsets your hand, and you can not form a proper fist.
I would fear breaking my fingers by laying into someone while wearing this.
FUNCTIONALITY
The T4 is a highly functional tactical flashlight. Its small size and light weight allow you to store it in nearly any pouch or pocket in your chest rig, plate carrier, or pants.
The 7075 and 6061 aluminum bodies are extremely strong and durable. They both have an IP68 rating, meaning they can handle water, dust, and abuse.
This effectively means the T4 can handle any environment in which it’s used.
Although it doesn’t have the brightest light, at 850 lumens, it is pretty highly focused and performs well in self-defence situations where you need to blind an assailant.
The mechanical mode selector makes it so easy to switch between modes and alleviates any need to remember switch sequences.
The instant high in tactical mode is solid, and the switch’s forward and reverse circuit system, although not a perfect solution, gives you very quick single-press access to the strobe.
WHAT I LIKE BEST
MECHANICAL MODE SWITCH
The mechanical mode selector is my favourite aspect of the T4. It makes mode selection easy and eliminates the hassle of memorizing switch presses to change the mode electronically.
It also eliminates the possibility of giving yourself away in a tactical situation. Many flashlights turn on as you change modes, exposing you when you least want it.
POWER
The T4 can still produce a blindingly strong beam for a flashlight less than four inches long. This makes the T4 an asset whether you’re carrying it while in uniform or just using it as an EDC.
CONCERNS AND CRITICISMS
SWITCH FEEL
As I said earlier, the switch press is good. It’s firm, with a solid detent. I have no problems with the press. My issue is with the switch’s design.
The inner switch is quite narrow, and Wuben put a large rubber cap on it for mere appearance. This makes the rubber’s edges feel very flimsy and cheap.
So, although the switch press is good, the design and feel are not the best.
CONCLUSION
The T4 is a great little EDC tactical flashlight. It’s small and compact, so it can be carried anywhere, yet it still packs a strong punch.
It’s loaded with great features, including a manual mode selector, embedded charging port, and a forward and reverse tail switch, and it does it for an economical price.
It’s not the brightest flashlight on the market, but the Wuben T4 is a good choice for anyone looking for a compact, bright tactical flashlight.
