Nanuk 995 Rifle Case: Protection For Your Most Important Gear
The Best 5.56 Semi-Automatic Rifles Made in Canada
PRICE
IS THE NANUK 910 WORTH THE COST?
If you have a couple of semi-automatic handguns and you need a solid, extremely tough case that’s completely weather-resistant and will always get your gear to its final destination.
And that comes in at only $159.95 CAD or $117.32 USD.
Then Yes, the Nanuk 910 is completely worth the cost.
OVERALL
The Nanuk 910 is as solid a case as they come. The Nk-7 resin body is extremely durable. It’s also strong, lightweight, and nearly completely weatherproof—I only say nearly because I haven’t tested it in all forms of rough weather.
Though the weather and elements I have tested it in, it’s passed with flying colours.
The body has also been overbuilt with raised ridges all over to be the first line of defence, to take the majority of the beating, and to act as a shock absorber for your gear inside.
Nanuks power claw latches have a three-step opening system, are incredibly well built and will never open accidentally on you.
The 910 has a snap-down handle that stays securely in place and a soft grip for comfort.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
There is a notable difference in the average case you might buy at your local gun shop or Cabellas and Nanuk cases.
When I pulled the Nanuk 910 out of the box for the first time, I was immediately impressed. I have a bunch of different cases for my firearms, but none are of the same quality as the 910, and that was immediately apparent.
The case wasn’t flimsy, and there was no cheap design on it, as nice as that might be. The pivot points were all smooth and firm, and the inside foam was top-notch.
FIELD FIRSTS
The first time I got the 910 out, I was at the range with a couple of buddies from the infantry and the RCMP. It was a perfect Canadian range day: snowy but not too cold.
Thanks to the cold and wet snow, I got a decent idea of the 910’s capabilities in wet and cold weather. Thankfully, it wasn’t minus fifty, but the 910 held up fine to an average winter day.
Even after spending some time in the snow, no water broke the seal, and my guns were perfectly dry.
I also took the opportunity to toss the 910 around a little, and the power claw latches were solid. They never opened by accident, and my guns were held solidly in place.
It performed well on its first field test.
QUALITY AND DESIGN
BODY
The body of the Nanuk 910 is made from nearly indestructible, at least by normal standards, Nk-7 resin, a special polymer created specifically to meet Nanuk’s high standards of strength and durability.
The case is extremely lightweight, yet with the Nk-7 shell, it is, as I said, extremely strong.
The 910 has an overbuilt shell, which means there was added protection for the shell built into it. All the ridges along the curved edges aren’t just for looks but act as extra protection and shock absorbers for the case.
It has these protected edges on the bottom and the top of the case.
LATCHES
Nanuks power claw latches are unique because they are three-stage unlatching locks. This ensures that the locks never open by accident, and you never lose your gear inside.
You first have to push down on the grey button, then continue holding it down while you lift up the button latch, which finally lets you pull down on the top locking hook.
These latches are extremely solid and, because of their robustness, provide a lot of comfort to the owner.
HANDLES
The 910’s handle is thick, durable, and strong. It has an ergonomic design and soft grip rubber for ease of carry.
Nanuk has also built its handle stay technology into the handle, which means it stays shut and won’t open or move on its own.
It keeps the handle out of the way when you have the case open and are using it, and it prevents the handle from getting smashed around when you’re travelling and have it stowed away.
HINGES
The hinges are Nanuk’s unique stay-open hinges. They have a resistant point at the forty-five-degree spot, which prevents the lid from shutting while you’re operating inside the case.
The hinges are also built with a hard outer shell covering the external part of the hinges, ensuring that any abuse the case might take won’t reach them.
Hinge points are quite often the weakest spot on a case, so this is a solid feature which ensures the hinges are completely protected.
PRESSURE RELEASE VALVE
The automatic pressure release valve equalizes the sealed case’s interior pressure with atmospheric pressure outside the case.
This ensures you can always get into your case when needed, and it’s not stuck shut due to science.
PADLOCK HOLES
The Nanuk 910 has two padlock eyelets on either of the front corners. Unlike some of their other cases, though, these eyelets are not reinforced with steel.
However, Nanuk has placed about half an inch thick of Nk-7 resin all around the eyelet on the inside, keeping the padlock holes very strong.
INNER PROTECTION
The base inner protection in the Nanuk 910 is PEF foam. PEF foam is a closed-cell foam with good cushioning, water resistance, and heat insulation properties.
A resin has been applied to the top five millimetres or so of the foam, making it quite firm while the underneath layer stays soft. This mixture of firm and soft foam base helps to keep your guns locked in place and protected.
The lid has a single layer of soft foam for added protection and security.
FUNCTIONALITY
The Nanuk 910 Classic 2UP gun case is a highly functional and practical handgun case. It is lightweight, rugged, compact, and weatherproof, making it ideal for any environment.
Two pistol slots can hold compact, standard, and large pistols. There are also two double-stacked magazine slots and two single-stacked magazine slots.
With the area beneath the trigger group cut out deeper, the 910 can accommodate pistols with trigger locks and beavertail designs.
With built-in and reinforced padlock eyelets, you can slap a lock onto the 910 and ensure your handguns stay safe, whether at home, the range or travelling abroad.
The 910 is very functional and excels at its given task.
WHAT I LIKE BEST
LAYOUT AND COMPATIBILITY
The Nanuk 910 has a simple and organized layout, with the handgun spots above and the magazine spots below. It may sound lame, but layout is important and can show the effort a company puts into its products.
I have seen some handgun cases with the magazine slots in different locations, but I wasn’t a fan. Simple things like a case’s layout speak to quality, and the 910 is high quality.
I also really like that it doesn’t matter what size or style of handgun you own; the 910 can accommodate them all.
CONCERNS AND CRITICISMS
SMALL HANDGUN SLOTS
My only issue with the Nanuk 910 was fitting the SIG P226 into it. The front end is a bit thicker, and I had difficulty initially getting it into the pistol slot.
Now I understand it’s like that so it can hold smaller pistols like the M&P, which fit the slot great, but a heads up for people with larger handguns: If you don’t want to fight to get it in each time, you’ll have to cut a small chunk of foam out.
CONCLUSION
Nanuks 910 2Up Classic gun case is one of the best handgun cases on the market for single or double-stacked semi-automatic handguns and is a favoured case among law enforcement and military personnel.
They have put a lot of thought and effort into the 910, which shows in the small things like reinforced hinges, reinforced padlock holes, and a comfort-orientated handle.
The 910 is lightweight even when fully loaded, the Nk-7 resin body is extremely rugged and durable, and its strong weather-proof seal keeps your handguns safe in any environment.
Ultimately, the 910 quality and design make it one of the best handgun cases on the market.
