Like many other guns in Canada, semi-automatic tactical shotguns are under attack. However, there are still a handful of solid semi-automatic tactical shotguns that Canadians can buy, and with a shotgun’s simple design and versatility, no gun collection is complete without one.
While pump-action shotguns are good, semi-automatic shotguns take the same versatile design and make it even better. They let you throw more lead down range and engage more targets with the same brute force.
Here are seven semi-automatic shotguns still available on the Canadian market.

BUYERS GUIDE: WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU
PRICE
One of the main things we all must consider these days when purchasing big-ticket items is the cost of those items.
What can you reasonably afford? These semi-automatic shotguns cost between $500 and $3500 Canadian dollars or approximately $370 and $2600 USD.
You need to consider not only the cost you can afford but also whether the shotgun is worth the cost.
Ask yourself, “Why is one shotgun more expensive than another when they’re seemingly so similar? Are those differences worth the extra money?“
A more expensive shotgun may be worth the cost if the parts used in that shotgun are more durable and prevent it from certain issues or if it has more or better options and functionality.
A more expensive shotgun may cost less in the long run if it doesn’t break as much as a slightly cheaper shotgun.
But it may not be worth it if the cost of a shotgun is simply due to the company’s personal assessment of its own product.
Ask yourself these questions about pricing, and they will greatly help you.
STYLE
You have to figure out which style of shotgun you like best. Overall, they generally have the same build with Picatinny rail, ghost and fibre optics sights, adjustable stocks, and aggressive design.
Even though they all generally have those same aspects, they all look slightly different in one regard or another. So you need to decide which design you like most.
While the shotgun’s function is highly important, it’s also important to take your time and examine its different aesthetic properties.
COMMON PROBLEMS
Every shotgun will have some problems that it deals with and that it’s known for.
These problems need to be considered. What problems are you willing and able to deal with, and which problems are you not willing to deal with?
If a potential problem with a shotgun is common and could lead you to spend more money on it than you wanted, you could potentially go for a slightly more expensive shotgun that doesn’t have that problem.
Or maybe a less expensive shotgun is known for an issue, but it’s rare, so you’re willing to take a chance with that shotgun regardless and deal with the problem if it ever happens.
Know the shotgun’s downfalls and figure out if you are okay with them or not.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I believe everyone should own at least one semi-automatic shotgun. Their straightforward and simple design makes them extremely tough and durable, cementing their place on the list of end-of-the-world weapons.
Also, with such a vast array of ammunition, shotguns can be used for everything from hunting birds and deer to home defence, personal protection, and target and sport shooting.
Each shotgun on this list is precision-made and would make a fine addition to anyone’s gun collection
Remember, if you don’t exercise your freedoms, you lose them.
